Give me a little background on yourself.
I was born in the Bronx where they invented hip-hop by the way. As I was in the Boy Scouts, the Scoutmaster of one group that I was in, was into Wes Montgomery and playing guitar. He had no one to play with so at the end of the meeting, and this was the Boy Scouts in Harlem, he said “would you come by? I’ll teach you guitar just to have someone to play with.” I said “why not? I’m adventurous.” I picked up the guitar and I was listening to the chords but for some funny reason, I focused on the bass notes. It just took my ear and so lo and behold, I didn’t choose the bass.
